BRITISH BLIND MASTERS 2014
The British Blind Masters was won by Peter Hodgkinson guided by his wife Margaret from Heaton Moor, Stockport
Although hurricane Bertha did not exactly hit the town of Grantham it's effect still made for very windy conditions on the first two days of the Masters. Margaret and I teed off on the first day with the reigning Champion Billy Macalister and his guide Andy Dutton and after battling the conditions came in with a net 69. Putting was certainly a challenge on the first two days, as not only was the sloping greens hard to read, but the wind didn,t help either. The first round of 69 saw us leading after Day 1 and we managed to shoot the same score again on Day 2 to be on 138 at that stage. Euin Hills, 65 on Day 2 made him the leader at the halfway stage on 136 and meant that we were paired together on Day 3. A pleasant surprise came for Margaret and I on Day 3 when our eldest son Mark (who had some business to attend in Lincoln) turned up and walked the last 6 holes with us. Incredibly when the scores were added up I shot another 69 which gave me a 7 shot lead over Euin going into the last round. Day 4 was a different ball game altogether from the first three days. Nerves certainly crept in and I tightened up and felt it all slipping away after an horrendous front 9. Things turned round from the 11th hole and we played reasonable golf from then on.
My thanks go to Billy, Andy, Euin and David for their good company over the four days.
On arriving back home from the Masters I was contacted by the Captain of my golf club (Heaton Moor GC) who stated that the Club would be pleased to hold the trophy in their Trophy Cabinet for the year and it is now sitting proudly there.
