HALL OF FAME
Auld Enemies Cup 2014
What a week!!! Never in my wildest dreams did I think that we would win so convincingly, if anyone had suggested that we would win 17 1/2 6 1/2 I would have laughed at them. Luckily we had a great week in terms of the weather; it stayed dry and sunny for the most part.
Monday started with what I called a “Guest Day”, this was teams which included players representing companies that had sponsored a hole or some other part of the week. There were some terrific individual scores; all the scores were paired with a mystery card to decide the winning pair, the winning score being 86 that was myself and Alan Morgan of Scotland.
The real thing started on Tuesday morning, everyone new their opponents for the day and following the opening ceremony led by the choir from the local primary school Gaudet Luce President and the town mayor. Play got underway at 10.00am
Normally, we tend not to do so well in the Foursomes but by the end of play England /Wales were leading 4pts to 2pts, with four matches going to the eighteenth. The team meeting later was full of energy , everyone excited at the prospect of going into the next days four balls in front and determined to hold onto the lead.
Wednesday’s four balls proved to be another good day for EnglandWales with the result again being 4pts to 2pts taking us into Thursday’s singles with an 8pts to 4pts lead.
Thursday’s singles turned out to be even better than the previous two days with the results going in our favour again by 9 ½ to 2 ½,it was a fantastic performance by everybody.
The best part for me was receiving the Auld Enemies Cup from the Mayor later at the dinner.
Thanks go to my team and their guides. There was a great team spirit and everyone supported each other.
A massive thank you must go to Gaudet Luce for their support and for having the course in such great condition and to all the members that gave up their time to act as markers and spotters.
