The Auld Enemies Cup 2015

The 2015 Auld Enemies Cup is being held in Kinross on 21st to 24th September

England won the Auld Enemies Cup by 16.5 to 7.5

Following up on last year’s overwhelming victory in the Auld Enemies Cup was always going to be difficult, or so we thought.

The main aim this year was to bring the cup back home, but to win by such a wide margin again was testimony to the strength of our team throughout. We got off to such a strong start with a 5 and 1 win in the Foursomes, which bettered last year’s 4 and 2 start. The foursomes has largely been our nemesis but we seem to have broken the Scot’s grip now.

Taking a 5 – 1 lead into the Four Balls on day two meant  that the team were full of confidence and ready to go on the Wednesday morning. After John Eakin and I completed our match on the fourteenth with a resounding win 5 and 4. The news filtered back that we had lost the first two matches out. Thankfully, we had victories in all of the last three matches behind us to give us a 9 and 3 lead going into the last day’s singles.

Thursday was not a particularly nice day to play golf in, but knowing that we only needed three and half points to win the cup was just the incentive we needed.  The early results didn’t go our way with one and half points from the first four matches. With a win from Billy McAllister and myself we had the points we needed to win the cup again outright. Every player played their part in the win and even better all of our B1’S scored points with their partners and in the Singles.

I must thank everyone for a fantastic effort and a special thank you goes to all the guides they are an equal part of the team in my book.

It has been a pleasure to Captain two winning teams in this match especially after being a losing Captain in 1999.
